What we know

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Backgrounder on Emergency Preparedness states that “the plume exposure pathway EPZ extends about 10 miles in radius” and “the ingestion pathway EPZ extends about 50 miles.” An EPZ is an emergency planning zone.

What we don’t know yet

The boundaries, and an evacuation time estimate that depends on Route 8 and the river crossings.

Who decides

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission; the Federal Emergency Management Agency; Kentucky and county emergency management.
